For most dogs, ABSOLUTELY! Our customers have dogs ranging anywhere from 12 to 120 pounds and they love it. A lot of them are pleasantly surprised by how strong the adhesives are and how well they hold up to added pressure.

When the Door Buddy Door Prop is secured in the latched position, there will be no movement when the dog pushes or pulls on the door which makes it a lot stronger cat door latch allowing it to hold up to much bigger dogs. This makes it a great choice for strong and enthusiastic dogs.

If the Door Buddy Door Strap is suited better for your situation, please review our Installation Guide for alternative methods of installation. Using Method 3 is the strongest and will provide the greatest resistance to pressure.

It depends on what stage you consider as a toddler. It is usually best to start using Door Buddy early when your baby just starts crawling. Then, when they reach the toddler stage they will know that room is "off-limits" already.

If you start using the Door Buddy Door Strap when your little one is older than 2 years old, then there is a chance that they will be able to push hard enough for the adhesives to come off. However, please review the Installation Guide for alternative installation methods. Using Method 3 is the strongest and will provide the greatest resistance to pressure.

If you're using the Door Prop, please note that it would no longer be effective once they are old enough to reach the door knob/handle and can open doors.  

Just remember that Door Buddy is intended only as a deterrent and is meant to make your and your cat's lives easier. Like any baby-proofing product, it is NOT a substitute for proper adult supervision.

Door Buddy's door strap and door prop work best when your dog is slightly larger than your cat. Many customers say that work great even though their cat is the same size as their dog. Cats can become pretty liquid and squeeze through tighter spots. We suggest judging it by head size or shoulder width.

Door Buddy products may not work if your dog is much smaller than your cat.

Yes! Door Buddy Door Strap works perfectly on left and right swinging doors, doors that push or pull open, pocket doors, barn doors, double doors, and bi-fold doors. You can even install it on the back of the door for greater strength and resistance to pressure.

Door Buddy Door Prop works great on standard indoor left or right swinging doors. Unfortunately, it is not suitable for pocket doors, barn doors, sliding doors, double doors, or bi-fold doors. Here, the strap will work better.

The Door Buddy Door Strap offers lots of flexibility in installation. However, due to it being a strap, it doesn't prevent the door from closing. That is exactly why we created the combo pack that includes a pinch guard/door stopper. The pinch guard/door stopper stops the door from closing and prevents pinched fingers and pets from getting locked in or out of rooms. See Door Buddy Installation Guide for example in Method 4.

Our door prop has a different design and is made from sturdy plastic. It keeps the door propped securely at the desired width, preventing it from closing.

Both the Door Buddy Door Strap and Door Buddy Door Prop are designed to provide flexibility and adjustability to meet your specific needs.

Door Buddy Door Strap: This strap offers high customizability, allowing you to adjust the door opening width from 0 inches up to a maximum of 8 inches, depending on how and where you install it. Simply utilize the tri-glide adjuster on the strap to achieve your desired width.

Door Buddy Door Prop: The Door Prop offers an adjustable width ranging from approximately 3 inches to 5.5 inches. This range accommodates most cat sizes and effectively blocks access for dogs and young children. To make adjustments, follow these steps:

1. Loosen the small screws that hold the two parts of the Door Prop together.

2. Slide the parts closer together or further apart until you reach the ideal width for your requirements.

3. Once the desired width is set, use the provided T8 Torx wrench to securely re-tighten the screws, ensuring they are fully locked.

Important Note: Make sure to fully tighten the small screws. If the door prop still slides, continue to tighten the screws. Sometimes even a quarter turn can make a significant difference, transforming it from unlocked (sliding) to locked (non-sliding). But, also be mindful not to overtighen because that can damage the threading that enables proper locking.

Depending on your needs, here are recommended settings for Door Buddy Products:

• Widest Width (5 - 6 inches): Ideal for blocking entry to most large dogs while permitting smaller animals like cats and small dogs to pass through freely.

• Medium Width (3 - 6 inches): Effective at blocking access for medium and large-sized dogs and preventing babies from entering the room. Cats can still enter as needed.

• Narrowest Width (0 - 3 inches): This setting is perfect for restricting access to most cats and dogs. It's recommended for situations where you want ventilation without access or when you're using Door Buddy to introduce pets.
